After 2015, 2016 and 2018, Darina Kozlova & Alexey Kondrashin became European Champions in the MC Free Style category for the 4th time in the last five years. In the french capital Paris the russian couple were safe five and six points ahead of their hitherto direct competitors Margarita Charkovskaya & Ivan Kudryashov (Russia) and Michelle Uhl & Tobias Bludau (Germany) on places three and four, respectively. The latter two struggled in their acrobatic performances, giving room for an unexpected Vice-European Champion.
After the footwork final round, things seemed as expected and even closer than a week before in Moscow: Kudryashov/Charkovskaya in the lead, only two points difference to Uhl/Bludau on the second place, who were give nearly identical points to Kozlova/Kondrashin on the third rank. With Uhl/Bludau leading the table after the semi-final with 3 points before Charkovskaya/Kudryashov, an incredibly tight race was to be expected among the World's three top couples.
One may now attribute it to the special atmosphere at an European Championship, the tension of the situation and whatnot, Kozlova/Kondrashin with a flawless and best-judged acrobatic round got the better of their rivals, who slightly slipped with an acrobatic each.
The second best acrobatic performance was shown by Konstantin Samoylov & Anastasia Gusarova, who lay on place 6 after the footwork, with one point difference only to European Champions Kozlova/Kondrashin. Rather unexpected given the the results of this year's World Cups, Gusarova/Samoylov completed the russian-only podium as Vice-European Champions.
